One number in, one number out. How much Normverbrauchsabgabe an Austrian registration will cost, at 2026 rates.
For 2026 the rate is (CO₂ − 91) ÷ 5 percent, rounded, capped at 80 %. On top of the rate there is a malus of €80 for every gram above 155 g/km, and a flat €350 comes off the end. Electric and hydrogen cars at 0 g/km pay nothing at all.
This page assumes you know the CO₂ figure. An American car usually does not have one, because it has never been through European homologation — and in that case Austria substitutes engine power in kW × 2. A 300 kW car is then taxed as though it emitted 600 g/km.
If you are pricing an import rather than a European car, use the full import calculator instead — it handles that substitution and shows you what it costs.
