FAQ

Questions people actually ask

Pulled from our inbox rather than invented. If yours is not here, write and we will add it.

Before you commit

How much does it cost to get a quote?

Nothing. You get an itemised landed price with no deposit and no obligation, usually within one working day.

Is the price on the site what I will actually pay?

It is an estimate, and every page says so. Duty and VAT are exact, freight comes from our rate table, and NoVA uses the current formula — but the final purchase price, the exchange rate on the day and the tax office's view of the value can all move it. We fix a figure in writing before we bid.

Do you have cars in stock in Vienna?

No, deliberately. Every car we bring in has a name on it before we buy. That means you are never paying for the ones that did not sell.

Money

What is your fee?

20 % of the vehicle purchase price, tapering above €50,000 — 15 % to €100,000, 12 % to €200,000, 10 % above — with a €4,500 minimum. Duty, import VAT, NoVA, freight and registration are passed through at cost.

Why is the fee on the car and not the total?

Because most of the total is tax collected by the Austrian state. Charging a percentage of your NoVA bill would be marking up money we merely handed over.

What does the inspection cost?

The desk pre-check is free. A full in-person inspection is €1,000 and is credited in full against the car when you buy it, so on a completed deal it costs nothing.

When do I pay?

Nothing until you accept a written figure. After that, the vehicle and shipping when we buy, and the duties when the car clears customs.

The car itself

Can you get any car?

Anything road-registered in the United States, including dealer-only auction lots you cannot bid on yourself. We are cautious about salvage titles, and will say so.

How long does it take?

Eight to fourteen weeks from go-ahead to Austrian plates. The ocean crossing is 18–24 days of that; the rest is finding the right car and the paperwork at this end.

What if it arrives damaged?

It is insured door to door at declared value, not a nominal figure. We handle the claim.

Tax and paperwork

Why is NoVA so high on American cars?

Because it is calculated from CO₂, and if the car has no European figure Austria substitutes engine power × 2. That single line can swing a quote by €50,000 or more, and dealing with it is most of what you are paying us for.

Is an electric car really NoVA-free?

Yes. 0 g/km means no NoVA at all — on a large electric SUV the exemption is worth more than the entire shipping cost.

Can I do the customs part myself?

You can, and some people do. We will hand you a complete, ordered file if you would rather deal with the office yourself.

Still not answered?

Email us. We reply within one working day, and vague questions are welcome — most imports start as one.
